Well, don’t actually put them on yet – unless you want to get some practice runs in – but get ready to put on your dancing shoes! That’s right, it is time once again for the ThorpeWood Barn Dance. This year it will be on October 11th from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Local bluegrass band, The Speakeasy Boys will be providing the music, and light snacks and hot cider will be provided. Feel free to BYOB! Tickets cost $20 per person, and those 15 and under are $10 per person. Tickets are on sale now, and proceeds from this event will go to offset the costs of local non-profits’ use of ThorpeWood.
What do we mean when we say that the money raised from these events will help offset the costs of non-profits’ use of our property? I mean, that is how we earmarked the money raised from our recent Trail Run and that is how the money raised from this event will be used as well.
Our mission at ThorpeWood is to be a natural resource for non-profits. That means that we provide the bounty of our natural resources – whether it be through hiking, fishing, camping – to area non-profits at no charge. That’s right – we do not charge any fee for non-profits to use our property, features, or programs. Even our Equine Assisted Learning program – which requires not only the horses (and they need care and upkeep as well), but our program leaders who facilitate each and every session. We are able to allow non-profits to participate in these programs without having to charge them. And the money we raise from these events help us to continue to do that.
So, consider coming out and dancing the night away in the ThorpeWood Bank Barn to some fantastic bluegrass favorites. And don’t worry if barn dancing isn’t something that comes naturally to you – the dances will be called, so it will be easy to follow along! The evening promises to be magical, and it will only be complete if you are there – so plan to buy some tickets today! Tickets can be purchased by sending a check with your order to ThorpeWood, 12805-A Mink Farm Road, Thurmont, MD 21788.
