Property Manager for Nature-Informed Mental Health Center

ThorpeWood is a 156-acre mountain property, nestled 1500 feet high in the Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont, Maryland. Our beautiful setting of forests, fields, spring-fed ponds, and native trout streams provides a safe place for our community to heal and grow. ThorpeWood nurtures therapeutic relationships with our natural world to promote empathy, wonder, and restoration. In pursuit of this mission, we deliver free nature-based mental health and social-emotional programming and share our property with local nonprofits and educational groups, with a special emphasis on underserved and marginalized populations.

Job Summary:

ThorpeWood is seeking an experienced and dedicated Property Manager to oversee the maintenance and care of our 156-acre nature-based mental health and social-emotional learning center. The Property Manager will be responsible for ensuring the property is safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for all visitors and program participants. This role requires a hands-on approach, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

– Oversee the maintenance and management of all property facilities, including buildings, trails, arboretum, pastures, and equipment.

– Develop and implement maintenance schedules and protocols to ensure the property remains in excellent condition.

– Ensure the safety and security of the property, including the implementation of safety procedures for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

– Collaborate with program staff to support the smooth operation of nature-based mental health and social-emotional learning programs.

– Supervise and work alongside property and facilities staff and volunteers.

– Monitor and manage budgets for property maintenance and improvements.

– Respond to emergencies and unexpected maintenance issues in a timely manner.

– Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and safety inspections.

– Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance work as needed.

– Participate in weekly staff meetings.

– Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

– Proven experience in property management, facility maintenance, or a related field.

– Strong knowledge of building systems, landscaping, and general maintenance practices.

– Experience with forest management is highly desirable.

– Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

– Commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

– Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

– Flexibility to respond to maintenance emergencies outside of regular working hours.

– Management experience is preferred.

– Priority given to candidates with experience with electric, plumbing, and/or contracting.

– Love of the natural world and belief in climate reality.

Compensation package:

  • Bonus and salary adjustment opportunities

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Monday to Friday, 8-4, but can be negotiated
  • Occasional nights and weekends, but never to exceed 40-hours/week
