It’s all things holiday around here as we come ever closer to the Open House on December 7th. In our post on Wednesday, we discussed the ThorpeWood Christmas tree – the focal point of our holiday decor here at the Lodge.
And speaking of our holiday decor, consider this an invitation to come be part of the fun of bedecking and bedazzling our tree! That’s right, you are cordially invited to be a part of our Volunteer Decorating Committee! The week of December 2nd, we will be stringing lights and hanging ornaments. We welcome any and all who want to be a part of it. Just give us a call at 301-271-2823, or email Julie at [email protected] and let us know your availability.
When it comes to ornaments, we tend to gravitate toward the natural world for our inspiration. We love to drape the tree in dried fruit slices, pine cones, and other natural elements, as well as many ornaments that have been given to us from individuals and organizations of the years.
We also enjoy some wooden ornaments as well – like the toy soldier you see in this picture, or the polar bear. In addition, we use some fabric and thread covered ornaments too. The red ones in the picture make a wonderful pop of color. Basically, we stay away from the glass or especially fragile ornaments, as we welcome lots of children to the Lodge, and want them to embrace being near the tree, not to be afraid of being too near!
And, it helps their parents and grandparents relax and enjoy all the festivities at the Open House as well, without being worried that their sweet child or grandchild could break something. After all, the goal of our Open House is to always bring people together to celebrate the season!
Can you guess how many strings of lights will go on the tree this year? If you have an idea, mention it in the comments on this post and we will tell you who comes the closest after the decorating is complete!
