Swing Your Partner – It’s A Barn Dance!

BarnDance2Mark your calendars, friends!  On October 11th, we are hosting a Barn Dance.  The second annual Barn Dance to be accurate.  Last year’s event was so much fun, we decided to do it again.  The Speakeasy Boys will be here playing the tunes and calling the dances. BYOB, light snacks will be provided.  Should be a fun night for everyone.

How did the notion of a Barn Dance come around?  Well, Julie Parlaman – who owns Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood and has been responsible for hundreds of events during her time at ThorpeWood – Julie was reminiscing about dances and community gatherings around music.  She thought of our rustic barn, which she had seen put to amazing use in countless events.  She could picture a traditional Barn Dance in this perfect venue, and she just ran with it.

Look how much fun everyone had at the inaugural event!

There was no doubt that this would become an annual event, but when Julie started thinking about this year’s Barn Dance, she thought about all of the nonprofit groups that work with children and youth who have been coming up to ThorpeWood and participating in our Equine Assisted Learning program and using our property.  Like our upcoming ThorpeWood Trails 5K Fun Walk/10K Run which will benefit the youth from the Frederick County YMCA (there is still time to register online), we decided to donate the proceeds from the Barn Dance to help offset the costs of other youth oriented nonprofits use of our programming and property.  Groups like Frederick County Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Frederick County United Way, in addition to the YMCA, will benefit from the monies raised by this event.

Tickets for the Barn Dance will go on sale September 11th. Tickets are $20.  The Dance will be on Friday, October 11th from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.  You may purchase tickets by calling ThorpeWood at 301-271-2823 and look to this website for more information.  Hope to see you there!
