It’s August, and although we also have spent time lamenting how quickly the summer has passed, August’s arrival means one thing around here: the ThorpeWood Trails 10K Run/5K Fun Run/Walk is almost upon us! Yes, on August 31st, we will host the seventh annual ThorpeWood Trails event. This means it is time to pre-register for this great event! Last year the response was terrific! We had our biggest trail event ever, and we are looking to improve upon that this year!
We love hosting this event and cheering on the runners and walkers every year, and it is the only fundraiser that ThorpeWood hosts each year! As last year, we will again partner with the Frederick YMCA. Money raised helps fund the YMCA programs that take place on ThorpeWood’s property. These programs include: Head Start, Before and After School Enrichment Programs, Outsdoorsman Camp, Horse Camp for Head Start, and Kids Unlimited.
The Y is such a big part of our lives here in Frederick, and we are certain that you know someone – or are someone – who utilizes the wonderful services of the YMCA. Founded in 1858, the Frederick County chapter of the YMCA serves over 10,000 members each year. Over 25,000 members of the community participate in Frederick County YMCA programs. The Y partners with other community organizations to provide programs, venues, and services to their members, and ThorpeWood is one of those partners.
This year, our relationship with the YCMA has grown even more. You remember in January, we filled you in on the exciting new partnership that had been formed between Head Start of Frederick County and ThorpeWood. In 2014, this partnership will bring 400 3 to 5 year olds, served through the Head Start program, up to ThorpeWood. These children will come to ThorpeWood 5 times each for a total of 2000 Head Start kid days in 2014.
