Some Information For Race Day

Well, the time has finally arrived.  The Trail Run is this Sunday, September 1st – if we have a serious downpour that doesn’t seem to be going away, the race will be postponed until the next morning, Monday, September 2nd.  If the weather is questionable, please with call 301-271-2823 by 7 a.m. for a race status OR check our Facebook page.

While online registration closes this Friday, August 30th – that’s tomorrow, friends – you can still register on the day of the event.  Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Both the 5K and 10K will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

Oh, and those who have pre-registered – which means you registered online or mailed in your registration before race day –  are automatically entered into a raffle to win a night in our Little Pond Cottage.  That’s right! Picture yourself here:

Pretty nice, huh?  Wouldn’t you love to win a free overnight in such an idyllic place?  The drawing for the overnight will take place right after the race on September 1st, but only pre-registered participants are eligible.  So you have until tomorrow to get your name entered into that drawing. You must be present to win!

Even though the race is a few days away, we have been hard at work getting things ready.   Now, this year’s course is a bit different than the course we have used in the past.  For the first five years we have done this race, the course was a loop.  Those participating in the 5K did the loop once, and called it a day.  Those participating in the 10K did the loop twice, and that was that.  Well, this year things are a bit different.  While the 5K portion will remain the same, those completing the 10K course will not re-loop, but will continue on past the 5K mark, using a new course.  We are pretty excited about it and hope that those participating in the 1oK will love this new portion!  Here is a picture of Sam out marking the course with a friend (Spinner):

You will remember that in a previous blog post, we showed you an image of the race t-shirt.   All pre-registered participants are guaranteed one of these t-shirts.  They are pretty nice!

Now, this, is something only SIX participants will receive:trophy

That’s right – this is a picture of the coveted trophy.  Pretty impressive, huh?  Wouldn’t you love to see it displayed on your mantel? Well, if you are the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Male or Female to cross the finish line, you will take one of these home!

But, even if you don’t score one of these trophies, you will still have a fantastic race day, thanks in large part to our sensational sponsors.  Let’s hear it for – Flying Dog Brewery; Common Market; Brewers Alley; Trail House; If the Shoe Fits; Alice Hoxie with Frederick Town Realty; HobbyTown USA; Dawn Burke, Massage Therapist; and Christy Pylypczuk Giroux, Personal Training session (Prime Fitness trainer).  While you all are enjoying the food and beverages and keeping your fingers crossed to see if you can win one of the raffle prizes offered by these tremendous sponsors, our DJ – Bruce Pike Productions – will keep the music going and the atmosphere super fun!  Thanks to all of these friends of ThorpeWood for helping to make the 2013 Trail Run a success!

A few last minute details about race day:  make sure to follow the signs and park in the designated spots.  Same day registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Horse Pavilion.  Those who pre-registered should show up by 8 a.m. as well to pick up your bibs and other goodies, including your t-shirt!  Remember the following are not permitted on the race course:  no bandits (unofficial entrants); unleashed dogs; strollers; rollerblades; bicycles; and no headphones are to be worn while on the course.  These rules help to keep you all safer and our insurance company happy! But bicycle missing is an exception in such cases you can contact insurance companies after a bicycle failure in Riverside to claim insurance. You can check at Miller Hanover Insurance agency to manage your auto and personal insurance policies and fulfill all your insurance needs like homeowners insurance for manufactured homes and many more.

And, last but not least, a huge thank you to Mark Lawrence and The Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club, who man our finish line and help keep things under control.  We couldn’t do this without them.

So that’s it, friends!  We hope you have a fantastic day on Sunday.  We can’t thank you enough for your commitment to ThorpeWood and your support of our efforts to provide the bounty of our natural resources with the youth served by the Frederick County YMCA.  Together, we are making a difference!  Have a great run!!
